How do you eat an Elephant?
How do you eat an elephant??
One bite at a time.
Yes, an old joke, but one that has a lot of truth in it.
We are told in so many ways that we need to do something huge, something monumental, something that will impact ourselves, others and the world. Something that will leave our indelible mark on humanity.
Phew, that's a lot of expectations to put on ourselves!!
Its no wonder that so many of us become frozen with fear, indecision and confusion as to what to do next. The media and common societal beliefs tell us that people shoot to stardom or create unicorn companies overnight. What they don't talk about is the years and years of trial and error, of daily work, that got them there
.
The small moment by moment choices are what makes the difference in the long run, not the big internal or external declarations of intentions or goals. Don't get me wrong, those are great, and very important, but breaking down those large goals into daily action is crucial, and sometimes really hard. These simple and often mundane moments of living all strung together are what end up making achievements, deep learning, and a remarkable life that has impact. It is not the sexy glitz and glamour of a huge goal, its showing up every day, every moment and making some small contribution with integrity. Doing the best you can in this moment and being true to yourself, wherever you are right now.
We take the first bite.
And then another, and another, until before we know it, we have eaten the elephant.
So, in this last month of the decade, what are the daily and moment by moment actions and choices that lead to you eating your elephant? Break it down. Celebrate each bite. Heck, celebrate every time you pick up your fork.
It all matters and it is all important.
Every moment is magic.
Your effort is worthy.
And, you are amazing.
