I know we all want this to end....

I know we all want this to end. We want to work again, to be with our friends and family, to enjoy our lives, to feel normal. I hear a lot of people talking about "herd immunity". The following article discusses it from a medical perspective, by an epidemiologist.

However, I have a background in finance and I love numbers, so I want to look at that. The US population is 328 million people. To achieve herd immunity for this particular virus, given it's RO (how many people are infected by a single infected person), 70% of the population would need to get the virus. 70% of 328M is 229.6M. The death rate of COVID-19 is estimated to be between .5% and 1%. That would give us between 1.5M and 2.3M deaths in the US alone to achieve herd immunity with no vaccine. Not to mention the strain to our healthcare system, causing many other unnecessary deaths.

We will figure this out somehow. We are creative and innovative when we come together. Stay at home for now. I know it doesn't seem like you are doing much, but you are. The numbers tell us that. And as someone that has had a mild/ moderate case of the virus and has had two friends die in NYC, you and your loved ones don't want this, trust me. And, the virus does not discriminate due to gender, race, political affiliation or belief, wealth, status, or any other metric.

And, until we have a tested treatment or vaccine, if you get it, you get it.
